INCLUSION – Supporting the Participation of Under-Represented Groups in the Lifelong Learning Programme
The Thematic Group on working with under represented/disadvantaged groups is one of the four thematic groups established by the European Commission in the framework of Thematic Networking activities
within the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP).
The Group is managed by the UK National Agency (ECOTEC) and consists of a large partnership of 14 countries including NAs from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Finland, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, and the UK.
INCLUSION aims to examine how successful the LLP has been in contributing to increased participation in lifelong learning by people of all ages, including those with special needs and disadvantaged groups and what more can be done to support participation and inclusion. It will look at good practice within the LLP, covering all of the LLP sub-programmes and including centralised and decentralised projects that specifically focus on work with disadvantaged groups with a view to recommending actions to support widening participation and inclusion. This work allows us to examine a key national and European priority as well as heighten the profile of the disadvantaged groups agenda. Specific objectives include:
• Explore the definition of what is meant by disadvantaged/under-represented groups.
• Establish how successful the programmes are in supporting disadvantaged groups and what more could be done.
• Identify and disseminate recommendations on how the Commission, the Executive Agency and the NAs could increase participation of more and different groups in the programmes to make them more inclusive.
