Summary DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The Leonardo da Vinci project ‘Blind People in Qualification - ProBIQ’ has as main aim to develop courses in programming for blind persons and persons with poor vision.

Blind persons and persons with poor vision are greatly excluded from quality measures providing preparation for their professional careers. The participation of this group in the labour market finds big obstacles, due to the limited options of qualification available. The project ProBiq ensures access to advanced modern demand education measures for blind persons and persons with poor vision. It helps them access the labour market and their social inclusion. Through its outputs, it will contribute to improve of their standard of living.

Programming industry belongs to the most modern industries and the qualifications in the area of programming are considered important and well paid. The project aims at increasing the quality of education possibilities for blind persons and persons with poor vision so that new quality jobs for these persons in the field of software development are created.

The phases of the project are the following:
Phase 1: Market research
Each partner checks at least one programming language
Phase 2: Developing curricula
A detailed curriculum will be produced for a programming language
Phase 3: Testing
The courses will take place
Phase 4: Finish
Production of final version of learning and teaching material and translation
Phase 5: Evaluation and dissemination

Outputs of all project phases will be disseminated throughout Europe using a blind dedicated server. Target group of the server are handicapped persons, their families, blind associations, enterprises, social projects and public administrative.
